Origins Of The Hoover Vacuum Company

The Hoover vacuum cleaner gets its' origins from a company who believed in ingenuity many decades ago. You see, it all started in 1907 when a man named Murray Spangler was working nights cleaning carpets. He found that his broom was not effective at removing all the dirt and dust in a timely fashion, so he set out to invent something that would and the Hoover vacuum cleaner was born.

Spangler put together a "suction sweeper" as he dubbed it and showed it to his family friends the Hoovers. W.H. "Boss" Hoover, who owned his own leather goods shop was so impressed with it that he purchased the patent from him, kept him as a partner, and began assembling units to be sold to the public. As soon as the public experienced the power of these new age vacuums they knew that their cleaning chores just got much easier.

The Hoover company kept ingenuity in the forefront of its' designs, constantly putting out new and improved vacuum cleaners. Over the years more and more manufacturers of vacuums sprang up but Hoover always stayed ontop of the competition. This was mostly due to their engineers really addressing the needs of their customers by staying in tune with them.

The company became publicly traded in the 1940's and was a success on the open market. Then in 1985 Hoover was bought by the Chicago Pacific Corp., then in 1989 acquired by Maytag. Today this company belongs to the same successful lineup of home appliance companies as Magic Chef, Jenn-Air, and Blodgett to name a few. One thing you get with a Hoover vacuum is a whole team of professionals standing behind their product. To read more about the origins of this innovative company visit hoover.com.
