When we bought our home it was a mix of tile, hardwood floors and carpet. I went around checking out vacuums, read reviews and asked friends what they had. Everyone I spoke with along with every vacuum had pros and cons. I went to Sears to check out the Kenmore and ended up coming home with one but hate it now. While it works great on carpet and seems to have a lot of power the thing is so heavy I can't get it up or down the stairs very easily and usually have to ask my husband. Although I do like the intelliclean feature on on board tools. But it's just so BIG. It doesn't fit under much so you'll spend time moving furniture and it's very wide so it doesn't fit between kitchen chairs or even bar stools.

I actually bought my Kenmore Magic Blue canister vacuum a couple of years ago and found it a great value at the then price of $99. Now they are a little more money but you can find good deals by shopping around online. I haven't had too many problems with it.
The vacuum is a very solid machine. It is very versatile with the low hardwood sweeper that gets it underneath most things in our house. It also does a good job on both carpets and hardwoods but we don't have any thick rugs so not sure how it works on them. I never spend a lot of money on a vacuum cleaner but I find that this one beats our prior more expensive upright hands down.

The Kenmore Progressive upright vacuum cleaner is simply TERRIFIC! This is the one word I use to describe these state of the art vacuums. I tried one of these cleaners out at my local Sears and had a chance to directly compare it to their Dyson and Hoover models and it literally left them in the dust. It was easier to maneuver and sucked up at a higher rate than anything else they had, and the best part was that it was comparably priced.
