Quality vacuum cleaner that is easy to maneuver around

I bought the Oreck XL 2000 upright vacuum cleaner earlier this year and have found many things that I like about it, but also a few that I don’t. I found some positive reviews and some negative ones, but my experiences have been mostly positive. I’ll start my review with some of the things I like about it.

For starters it is a very light upright and I find that I can even take it with me when I need to vacuum the office at my shop. It is also really easy to go low enough to get underneath our bed and some of the higher furniture in our home. The Oreck XL also works pretty good on hard floors which is very helpful for us because we have a variety of flooring types. We find ourselves vacuuming often as we have a busy household and this upright keeps up pretty good.

Now for the things I don’t like about it. The suction doesn’t seem to be as good as it should be and there is a lack of useful attachments on it. It just doesn’t seem to have the extras that other (more expensive) uprights have like a turbo brush. I always like that on our prior model. And the bags are quite expensive as well. If you are looking for a bagless unit then you need to look elsewhere. I like to have bags but wish they didn’t cost so much. And as for looks, the Oreck XL is an ugly vacuum cleaner. There really is no sugar coating that point.

Overall I give it 4 stars because it works great for what we need but it still has a few things they could improve on. Oreck is a well known brand of vacuum cleaners so I’m not worried about the durability. Plus I’m sure they will stand behind it if I have a problem.

The Oreck Halo works great for my allergies

I have pretty bad allergies to dust mites and pet dander, and have tried many different vacuums to no avail. The Oreck Halo is an upright vacuum cleaner designed to take care of allergens in a different way than you are used to. With a unique UV light underneath it is supposed to kill off all of those pesky critters that you cannot see and from my experiences it does a good job.

I cannot believe that it actually worked as my brother in law was kidding me that he would just sell me a different vacuum with a flashlight taped to the bottom. I took the leap and decided to try it because like I said before I have tried many other cleaners without complete success. Here is my experience with the Halo and why I feel that it does a good job.

Normally I will break out with a skin rash on my body whenever I come into contact with dust mites, which usually happens during the colder winter months when the house is closed up. Most of my rashes have completely disappeared since buying this upright. I can always tell when I don’t vacuum often enough as I break out all over. Then I get the cleaner out and start the process of eliminating the dust. Whenever I go to a friends house I will also get a rash if they aren’t cleaning as often as they should.

When you first get the Oreck Halo I would recommend giving your home a good and thorough cleaning. Then you can keep going once per week and you should see a difference within a few weeks. This will depend on your sensitivity to the allergens and how often you experience an allergic reaction. I really only suffer from dust mite and pet dander allergies so if your problems are different you may have a different experience.

The one thing I will mention that is keeping me from giving it 5 stars is when I first bought it I had to send it back for a manufacturing defect. Oreck was great and sent me a new model right away. Ever since then the UV light has worked great so I’m hoping that they have worked out the problems from the early models. Since it is a new technology I expected to have a setback or two so it didn’t bother me like some of the other reviews I have read.
