The Dyson DC31 handheld vacuum cleaner really is a great little machine. I have used it on several things including a carpet and bare floors. I'm still amazed at how well it picks up lint, pet hair, crumbs, and all other types of messes you encounter on a daily basis. While I bought it for just small pickups I find that it does much more than that, at least until the battery dies. For what it's designed for though it does a terrific job.

The additional beater tool that comes with the Animal handheld vac makes quick work of cat hair, even if it's embedded down into the fibers. We have a lined pet carrier that was always hard to get clean but the DC31 did the trick. Most hand vacuum cleaners have very little suction power but this one is much different. I didn't expect anything different since Dyson vacuums are well known for their power. I find that it is just as effective as our upright vacuum only quite a bit lighter and easier to move around. The performance makes this a great value, even though it is on the high end of prices for handhelds.

The only downside I found is the charge lasts about 10 minutes or so. As long as you don't expect it to go longer than that or aren't trying to use it to clean your entire home, I don't see any reason why you would give it a low rating. I actually get a lot of vacuuming done on one charge mainly because the suction is so powerful that you don't have to keep going over the same area.

I highly recommend the DC31 handheld vacuum cleaner and would recommend getting it in the Animal configuration as you get the beater tool included (not included with the standard model). The suction is great and it is ultra lightweight so you can carry it around everywhere you need to go.
